How to create a vision board

Recently I have been making some big shifts in both my personal and my work life. I am naturally a creative person which means my brain really does feel like it has about 1749575938 tabs open at all times. This is wonderful to create new ideas but not so productive when it comes to seeing those ideas through.

I have always loved the idea of creating a vision board but I did not love the idea of actually deciding what it is I want. While I was in a social media detox, I found my brain had much more clarity over what I wanted to achieve. Side note: the decision to create a vision board must not be taken lightly. For me, it was a beautiful emotional rollercoaster as I brought all of my passions from my swirling brain onto paper. It took me an entire day to imagine, visualise and create.

A vision board is a game changer for goal setting and dream attracting, so it’s important to know how to create one properly. Something a lot of people don’t even consider putting on their vision board is friendship. Depending on what makes you happy, try to think past material things and try to think about things that would make your soul happy.

If you are still on your journey to making friends, I encourage you to create a vision board of the types of friends you want to meet and things you want to do with your new friend. If you have made new friends you could create one together. The process of making a vision board is really fun and it is really important to have a vision for your friendship. Here is how to create a vision board.

What is a vision board?

A vision board is a collection of visual things that help you work towards manifesting them. These ‘visual things’ can be of anything; the people you want to attract into your life, your dream; job, car, house, pets etc. The important thing is that you decide on a direction for your life, pick exactly what you want and believe you’re going to succeed in getting them. I highly recommend the book ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne which explains the law of attraction and vision boards really well. They made a film of the e-book which is available on YouTube here.

How do I make a vision board?

This is the exciting bit. A vision board can be whatever you want it to be. Think about what makes your heart happy and what makes you feel creative. Are you happiest when drawing with colourful markers, designing on your computer or writing stories?

The process of making your vision board can be really fun and as creative as you wish. Some examples are;

  • Pin board

You can buy a simple cork board and pin cut-out images, photographs, words and drawings onto it.

Pros: You can easily add and amend
Cons: It never feels like a solid plan

  • Photo frame

Pros: Looks lovely and can be hung on the wall where you will see it
Cons: Difficult to amend

  • Pinterest

You can start a Pinterest board for all of your ideas. This is perfect to share with a friend as you can both access it and add to it. The ‘secret’ board option is perfect to keep your ideas just between the two of you.

Pros: Really quick and easy to do
Cons: Isn’t a real thing you can look at and create

  • Scrapbook

If you prefer drawing ideas out, being creative and getting out the colouring pens a scrapbook would work perfectly. You can cut images from magazines to stick in the scrapbook. You can add to it, draw in it and highlight bits.

Pros: You can make it look really pretty
Cons: Takes longer to create

  • Phone

If you prefer digital and have a more minimalistic lifestyle you may prefer to create your vision board on your phone. Apps like PicMonkey and Layout allow you to make a collage of images. You could then save this as your background screen or lock screen so that you always see it.

Pros: Always on your phone for you to see
Cons: Isn’t a real object you can look at and be inspired by

What to put on your vision board

Sit quietly. Reflect on your life now. Reflect on where you would like to be in 5 years. Decide on a time frame for your vision board (I did a year). Think about the memories you’d like to make, material things you desire and the vibe you would like to live by.

Look online and in magazines and print off or cut out any images that feel good for you and represent exactly what you want.

How to manifest what you want

The important thing is to believe that everything is possible. Let go of the desperation of wanting those things and allow the universe to do its thing.

If you made a physical copy place it in a prominent place for example in your bedroom or on your wall. When you see it focus on the feeling of succeeding and getting everything you want. You’ve got this!

Comment below, I’d love to know what you have achieved using a vision board.
